marching to the fields of fate
in the slanting rain

this traffic is a 
demented video game 
with only one life

unfamiliar stars 
align my bow across an 
esoteric shore

i traded these chains 
for a walking stick and a 
pocket full of sand

the glory of war 
drowns the shrieks of the wounded 
in lethal moonshine

what is more lofty 
than for a hundred men to 
march forward to death

i sing my joy but 
only the mountain knows the 
language of the wolf

every day i walk 
from the comfort of my bed 
into the unknown

this padded helmet
will serve well in my new role
as a projectile
